Participants: 24 CCCTS members
Cost: $1700 US, excluding air fare. The price increase from $1600 US was received from Bike China Adventures Inc. March 18, 2008 reflecting the anticipated value of the US dollar and general inflation. Hopefully, this is acceptable: if not, anyone who has forwarded the initial deposit will have it refunded if they contact the CCCTS office prior to the end of April 2008.
Description: The CCCTS, in conjunction with Bike China Adventures Inc., have designed a 1000 km, eighteen day tour of the Sichuan Basin and the Tibetan Plateau located in South Western China. The tour begins and ends in the city of Chengdu and is designed as a challenging ride which includes three passes exceeding 4000 meters. We will begin in the heart of the Sichuan basin and travel into the foothills of the Himalayas visiting the Wolong Panda Reserve, the Tibetan town of Danba with their fascinating defensive towers, then on to the Hailougou Glacier Park at the foot of Mt. George. (7500meter or 24,800 ft) This tour will visit both well-known and little-known sights and should appeal to those who have cultural, social or geographical interests.
This is a SAG supported, all- inclusive tour, utilizing one to three star Chinese hotels with the exception of one night at a no-star hotel.
The tour was advertised very early to insure that all our present membership had an equal opportunity to participate. The response has been overwhelming, to say the least. The potential participants will be chosen in the order in which their application was / will be received at the CCCTS office. As double occupancy will be the standard, some adjustment may be required to facilitate gender unless everyone is really openminded. It is hoped that we will publish the initial list of participants in the May CCCTS Newsbrief along with the waiting list.
Payment: $50 with initial application (Non refundable) $500 on deposit at CCCTS office 15 Jan. 2009 (Non refundable unless replacement from waiting list.)
Balance (to be determined in Canadian dollars) 1st Sept. 2009 (After this last installment is paid to CCCTS no refund period. All funds at this point are transferred to Bike China Adventures Inc.)
All cheques etc. are to be made payable to CCCTS with a note stating funds for China Tour.
Rob Fawcett, the Canadian representative of Bike China Adventures Inc. has accepted an invitation to attend our Spring General Meeting, 8 April 08, to answer any questions.
WE STRESS THAT EACH APPLICANT MUST ASSESS HIS / HER OWN PERSONAL FITNESS LEVEL AND HEALTH CONDITION IN ADVANCE OF THIS CHALLENGING ADVENTURE, TAKING INTO ACCOUNT THE SMOG OF THE CHINESE CITIES AND THE ANOXIC CONDITIONS OF THE HIGH MOUNTAIN PASSES.
